Yet another incarnation of Hitchhiker's submitted by cherylo on July 8, 2011, 9:46pm Every version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Radio plays/scripts, BBC TV series, books, text adventure game, and this movie adaptation) start out the same, with Arthur Dent narrowly escaping not one but two wrecking crews through the intervention of his friend, Ford Prefect, who turns out to be an alien. The main set of characters remains largely the same in every version with some deviations, as does much of the Guide itself. It is also true, however, that every version's plot fairly quickly deviates from every other version's. This is a very enjoyable trek, with many homages to other forms of the story, including cameos by the actor who played Arthur Dent in the TV miniseries and that series' version of Marvin the Paranoid Android. Very enjoyable, whether as your first dip into this venerated classic of modern SF or you have already consumed the other forms of this story, as I have. I particularly enjoyed Zooey Deschanel as Tricia McMillian/Trillian, and found Sam Rockwell's Zaphod interesting and disturbing.

Great Movie submitted by pidg2 on July 11, 2012, 9:54am Never experienced anything other than the movie, and I really enjoyed it. Great lines, goofy situations, touching moments; overall great movie!

Highly entertaining submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 21, 2012, 10:59am A very funny and entertaining film, "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" does not quite stay true to the book upon which it is based (which in turn was based on a TV series that itself was based on a radio series). I particularly loved the dophin's song and the fake poetry analysis. Fans of Alan Rickman, who played Snape in the Harry Potter movies, will get a kick out of recognizing his voice.
Some significant departures from the books include the President of the Universe not having two heads, although this adaptation is far more believable than the TV series' attempt to portray the character with two heads.

Interesting take on the book submitted by beeniepie on August 11, 2013, 2:41pm I usually am not a fan of Zooey Deschanel, but she and Martin Freeman work. This movie is worth seeing just to hear the dolphins sing, "So long & thanks for all the fish".

Hitchhiker's Guide submitted by SBNB on June 21, 2014, 1:07pm I wasn't impressed.

Not as good as the book submitted by ishhewitt on July 14, 2016, 6:37pm The book is more worth your time than this film.

Not as good as the original tv series submitted by gardenfaerie on July 23, 2017, 9:43am I love many of the cast members, and if you never saw the television series, this will be great. But if you did, it's just not quite right.

Eh submitted by ckfinzel on July 31, 2018, 1:26am As in most cases, the movie doesn't quite live up to the book, but honestly, I'm not sure any video adaptation could quite capture the tone of this book. Martin Freeman is well cast as Arthur Dent, and you can't get much better than Alan Rickman for a paranoid android. The movie itself is lackluster but enjoyable. Read the book.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy 2005 submitted by VanCancue on August 30, 2020, 11:05pm Perfect cast. Make sure not watch the movie while the book is still fresh in your mind.
