A coming-of-age tale
submitted by manz on July 5, 2011, 5:21pm
An endearing coming-of-age tale, you can't help but like young Billy. He's the underdog, and full of enthusiasm. He studies up on falconry and trains a wild kestrel. The story follows him and his day to day life, as he deals with bullies at school, a supportive teacher, and an older jerk of a brother.
Some of the dialect is a bit thick, but that's part of the appeal. The booklet that comes with this Criterion release is worth a read for some insight into the making of the film.
