The Origins of Power Pop submitted by Meginator on July 24, 2019, 9:28am This compilation of power-pop hits is remarkably consistent, as each of the tracks trading on similar musical and lyrical elements to create an upbeat soundscape that embodies the best that pop rock had to offer during the 1970s. Built on catchy hooks and lyrics about love, with influences ranging from the Beatles to the Who, these songs have a larger-than-life quality to them and are surprisingly progressive, presaging trends that would carry on into the 1980s and beyond and even influencing early punk bands. The blend of pop and rock is irresistible, even today.
