Nickel and Dimed is a modern classic that deftly portrays the plight of America's working-class poor. Author Barbara Ehrenreich decides to see if she can scratch out a comfortable living in blue-collar America. What she discovers is a culture of desperation, where workers often take multiple low-paying jobs just to keep a roof overhead.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

tells it like it is submitted by 21621031390949 on August 14, 2016, 10:34am This is a very interesting, though discouraging book about the impossibility of living in America while working at minimum wage jobs. Everyone in Congress should read this.

Fantastic submitted by majean on August 9, 2018, 6:09pm This books is, perhaps sadly, timeless and still relevant. Many people are making the same pay the were back in 2001 when the book came out. Everyone should read this book. The narrator of the audiobook is great!

Nickel and Dimed : : on (Not) Getting by in America submitted by lstorc on July 6, 2019, 7:46pm This is a hauntingly accurate portrayal of the extreme obstacles one must overcome to climb out of poverty.
