In Bradbury's classic, frightening vision of the future, firemen don't put out fires but start them--to burn books. It's a time when trivial information is valued and true knowledge perceived as dangerous and subversive. Guy Montag is a fireman with a wife who's goading him to work harder so they could afford another television set. When Montag befriends their neighbor Clarisse, whose love for books and knowledge is contrasted to the Montags' mindless existence, Clarisse suddenly disappears. As a result, Guy begins to hide her books. When his wife turns him in, Guy is ordered to hand them over. Refusing, he runs away, joining an outlawed group of intellectuals who store the contents of the books in their heads, waiting for the time the society will want to think again.

Classic submitted by dahyatt on July 3, 2017, 10:04pm This is one that everyone should read. A classic from Ray Bradbury.

Amazing submitted by c_zhang on June 18, 2018, 3:05pm This is a very deep book about a twisted reality which is scarily similar to our own. An essential book from Bradbury.

Couldn't stop...gripping to the end! submitted by lmangus on August 24, 2019, 4:13pm I finally made the time for Bradbury' classic, and what a reward for time spent!! A must-read. I've enjoyed so many of his other works over the years, but never had the chance to read this in school, and benefit from those class discussions, or the resulting essays/themes/papers shared with peers.
After I finished, I was desperate to discuss the parallels with various events in history, and now.. unfortunately, most friends either read if too long ago to remember details, or missed it entirely ( as I did). Thank goodness the internet has an endless supply of opinions/essays/etc on this work.
Final note: I didn't realize there were multiple versions published. Bradbury altered his original work in later years, to the applause of some, and horror of others.
Something to keep in mind is f you pick up a printed copy.
Enjoy!
