His music applies a punk rock sensibility to a singer-songwriter’s craft, resulting in a unique and flexible blend of sounds that conveys deep emotion with every single note. Turner’s vocals adapt to his lyrics, giving each track its own identity, and he doesn’t mince words, directly confronting difficult subjects such as substance abuse, death, and other types of loss. Yet the album is infused throughout with a sense of hope; at its heart, its a powerful argument for the power of art to help us make sense of life’s infinite struggles.
