Placido Domingo submitted by willow on August 5, 2015, 12:17pm Placido Domingo plays Otello the Moor using skin darkening makeup for the part, which Vincent Canby of the New York Times referred to as "more or less conventional theatrical blackface" in his 1986 review. Also, he notes that "For some strange reason, the boy Otello appears to have been a completely different color from the man he grew into."
