Variance without Cohesion submitted by Meginator on June 22, 2020, 12:27pm This album failed to make a significant impact on me as I was listening to it, mostly fading into the background as pleasant ambient noise rather than music that demands to be listened to, but I did appreciate the snippets of interest that did make my ears perk up. Several tracks incorporate synthesized sounds straight out of old-school video game music, and the middle section is a bit of a departure as it incorporates electronic effects into pop and rock songs that stand out against the background of dreamier ambient electronica. Yet it’s difficult to find a sense of coherence between tracks, and that inconsistency makes it difficult to take anything away from the listening experience other than a vague sense that Bibio has untapped potential.
