The World Shakes submitted by Caser on September 8, 2011, 1:21pm Did you check out the list of instruments on this record? Auro harp. Zither. Mellotron. And PJ Harvey's inimitable voice of course. The harrowing images in these songs are inspired by England's involvement in World War I, and the stories they bring to life certainly remain relevant given recent wars.

Harvey is again in her higher register as she was on White Chalk, but her melodies are more entrancing and the songs a lot tighter. Each song has a distinct purpose, message, and theme, making this album her strongest in years.
