COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Marketing win submitted by crazypockets on July 15, 2013, 6:10pm This movie had a lot of brilliant marketing associated with it at the time it was released. My friends and the "documentaries" that were on TV at the time had me so convinced it was real when we went to see it in the theater, and I was absolutely terrified. Now that I'm older and realize how gullible I was, I still think it's a pretty decently scary movie if you suspend belief and let yourself get into it. The tension is very well crafted, and the last scene is really freaky.

ok submitted by bled4days on August 3, 2015, 8:47pm Decent for the 1st of it's kind, but shaky camera can be a put-off.

Scariest movie as a kid submitted by dave_472 on July 18, 2020, 12:02pm For being low-budget, this was scary for being an "amateur" homemade style film when I saw it as a kid.

Revolutionary When It Came Out submitted by Meginator on June 12, 2021, 9:25am This film is best watched knowing as little as possible about it, alone (or with a trusted companion, human or animal) in a dark room. Built on suspense and implications rather than outright scares, with the found-footage format adding an additional layer of uncertainty and foreboding, the film is frightening because it relies on the audience to put all of the pieces together along with the characters. The actors feel like real people lost in a real forest facing a very real threat, and the slow unraveling of their psyches provides an emotional core that makes the story scarier than it ought to be. This one is a classic for a reason, and there’s far more to it than its gimmick and its viral marketing campaign.
