COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Verisimilitude submitted by terpsichore17 on July 25, 2018, 10:16am "Various performers" means I'm not quite sure who is singing this album, but whoever they are, they sound like they could really be sailors. Their sound is good but not so calculated or polished; it still sounds *real,* shouts or not-perfectly-unison-timing and all.

The Great 2021 Sea Shanty Revival submitted by Meginator on August 11, 2021, 4:23pm This album is a good source of material for anyone interested in ShantyTok, as it features songs that once echoed across the high seas. It’s interesting to contrast the shanties from the songs meant for relaxation; most of the shanties use a call and response pattern built around a strong one-two rhythm, while the other songs are generally more narrative and slightly more varied musically depending on the subject matter and instrumentation. Altogether, the songs create a compelling portrait of a unique and long-gone subculture.
