Beyond the One-Hit Wonder submitted by Meginator on August 20, 2022, 5:54pm This album functions more or less as a greatest hits album for the Fine Young Cannibals, and your enjoyment of it is going to depend almost entirely on your reaction to Roland Gift’s reedy vocals. They are well suited to some of these tracks but can land strangely in others, particularly the cover songs. The musical style varies between tracks, falling broadly on a pop-rock spectrum while incorporating elements of New Wave, soul, and even ska. Although the vocals can be a bit uneven depending surrounding context, this compilation proves that the band’s talents extend beyond their one-hit wonder.
