stunning submitted by unknown on June 19, 2014, 2:44pm Winona Ryder is back from several years of lull in any highly memorable roles in major movies, and she is right on form with possibly her best performance yet. But that is certainly not all this movie has to offer. She plays Susannah Kaysen, an inpatient for a year at a mental hospital, who wrote the book about her real life story on which this is based. Not only Susannah but several of the other inpatients are most memorable characters. Angelina Jolie won Best Supporting Actress for playing Lisa, a sometimes menacing and always interesting patient there because of her anti-social personality. Other quite meomrable characters include a pathological liar who is Susannah's usually sweet roommate, played by Clea DuVall, and the Sullen and obsessed Daisy, who will eat nothing but chicken from her father's rotisserie, played by Brittany Murphy. Through her own struggles and interactions with the others, Susannah confronts in a memorable way some of the hot issues of the late 1960's, making this almost a nostalgia trip as well as a riveting human drama.

great movie submitted by Jackie77 on July 13, 2015, 2:40am Great movie into the insights of menatal illness and the taboo of being labeled as such.

Girl, Interrupted submitted by a2sue on August 13, 2015, 11:16pm "Girl, Interrupted" was based on a book, and it's one of the rare occasions where I liked the film better than the novel.

Good submitted by kelleyc on July 1, 2016, 8:46am While it's not a good portrayal of "curing" mental illness (one day of fun doesn't fix everything) it's still an enjoyable watch, and anything that brings the reality of mental illness as an actual disease to the forefront of our mind as a society is a positive thing. Good film.

This film seemed pretty edgy at the time. submitted by lisa on July 24, 2019, 1:22pm I bet it doesn't so much, any more. I oughta watch it again.

Must watch submitted by crp on August 12, 2019, 9:21am Although not true to the events or prose of the book it is based on, it is a must watch to see two amazing actresses and a cast of supporting characters delve into something that is worth watching.

Very special submitted by yufamily on July 24, 2021, 7:43pm Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie were great.

Excellent Movie Adaptation of a Great Book submitted by MikkiMoscara on July 5, 2023, 9:52am This movie is so good! I loved the book as well, but Winona Ryer, Amelia Jolie, Brittany Murphy, Clea DuVall, and Whoopi Goldberg did a phenomenal job portraying the characters. Also, a great soundtrack. Highly recommended movie.

Another one flew over submitted by tarascon on July 13, 2023, 1:38pm I’d read the book before seeing this in the theater and I have to agree with all of the comments above. Great casting.
