"In the past decade music made by Aboriginal artists has enjoyed unprecedented levels of success in Australia. Here is a representative sample of the rich diversity -- from country through folk to rock -- of the music which has been used as a vital artistic medium to explore important issues ranging from land rights and the 'stolen generations' to colonial dispossession and racism"--Container verso.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Aboriginal Music submitted by avrogers1 on July 25, 2018, 11:34am This was really interesting! I really wasn't sure what to expect when I checked it out, so I didn't have any expectations. However, I did enjoy listening to the songs and I got to learn a little bit more about the Aboriginal culture. I really enjoyed that most of the song's told a story. Overall, it was a great folk music CD with some pretty catchy Tunes, really interesting content, and it was really well put together.

Surprising Musical Variety submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 9:02pm This is definitely one of the more surprising Rough Guide compilations I’ve listened to, and easily one of the most musically varied as well. The connective tissue here is less a particular style of music and more the artists’ cultural origins, meaning that the tracks incorporate everything from the expected didgeridoo, percussion, and vocal combination to Western pop, folk, electronica, and jazz. The album is full of surprises, yet everything feels connected through language, instrumentation, and thematic content. I cannot recommend this highly enough; it’s absolutely fantastic.
