A Rare Dud from a Great Orchestra submitted by Meginator on June 19, 2021, 11:37am There’s no question that few orchestras do better with pops performances than the Boston Pops, but this album doesn’t play to their strengths. Though I didn’t recognize a lot of the songs, those that I did have strange arrangements that, in my opinion, don’t make full use of the orchestra to reinterpret the original versions in interesting ways. Though it probably made more sense at the time of its recording, the album’s song selection won’t resonate with a lot of modern listeners; I have listened to a lot of music from this era, and most of these songs have lost their staying power. Altogether, then, I found this a disappointment overall, with its bright spots coming few and far between.
