COMMUNITY REVIEWS

One of the Best in the Business submitted by Meginator on July 3, 2019, 11:50pm This compilation of classic film scores by John Williams is unsurprisingly excellent and captivating, even for listeners who are unfamiliar with some of the scores. The compositions are rife with some of the composer’s favorite repeating elements, including blazing brass fanfares and sweeping themes carried from the strings to the winds, and each has a distinct presence that ties it to the film in question. I had forgotten how powerful some of these scores are, and others are new to me but no less intriguing. Music is an incredibly powerful tool in filmmaking, and Williams has an uncanny ability to immediately tap into cinematic moods, evoking them through sound alone; combined with Steven Spielberg's legendary vision, it makes for incredible experiences even absent the visual context. This album is an excellent demonstration of why John Williams is such a highly respected composer, and yet it still represents just a small sliver of his decades of work. Come for your favorites, and stay to appreciate the depths of Williams's amazing talent.
