Ragtime Out of Its Element submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 10:42pm It can be somewhat disorienting to experience traditional ragtime music in the context of a more traditional orchestra, but the New England Ragtime Ensemble fundamentally understands the form and acquits itself well in adapting the piano-based music to a radically different set of instruments. The beats are syncopated and the music is somehow lively despite the constraints of this type of larger ensemble. This isn’t the place to start with ragtime music, but it does offer a fun spin on a familiar genre.
