I'm Annoyed That I Like This submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 6:08pm I still can’t comprehend how Adam Levine, of all people, got pulled in to be a mentor on a singing show, but his style definitely works for him. The band’s lyrics themselves are often morally questionable, and Levine’s vocal style makes him sound annoyingly desperate in ways that accentuate the band’s creepy tendencies. Nonetheless, and though it annoys me greatly, Maroon 5 is excellent at crafting irresistibly catchy pop songs, and the deep cuts are just as good in that regard as the hit singles. Some traces of their funk-inspired past linger here, but most of the album is straightforward, feel-good pop in its radio-ready summer jam and ballad modes. If you’ve heard the band on the radio, you know what you’re getting here, and it’s pretty good pop music even if it isn’t particularly deep or innovative.
