My favorite volume submitted by Spectacular Reference-Man on July 9, 2013, 9:15am This is probably my favorite volume of the Sandman series. Two of the stories in this volume, "A dream of a thousand cats" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" are absolutely fantastic reads.

The first is the story of wild cats who meet to hear a story from their elder. It is a cat who has met Morpheus, or the Sandman, but he appears to her as another cat. They speak of a time when cats ruled the world, and that someday they will overcome the humans and rule the world again, as that is their dream.

The second story I mentioned is about how Shakespeare has made a deal with Morpheus for inspiration. He then finds out that he will be performing A Midsummer Night's Dream for an audience of the real Fae that Morpheus has brought to his world. Thus we see the "real" Oberon and Puck reacting to their portrayals on stage. If you are a fan of Shakespeare's work, this is a story you should definitely read.

Neil Gaiman portrays all these characters so well with distinct personalities, and constantly proves his prowess as a writer of the fantastic.

LOVE submitted by majean on August 16, 2018, 3:16pm I love, love, love the stories in this collection, especially "A Dream of a Thousand Cats."

This is the one to get someone interested in Sandman submitted by valjean on August 27, 2018, 12:53am If you start someone who isn't really a comic book reader with volume 1, they will probably not be excited to continue down the road of ten+ volumes. However, if you give them this, have them read the one-issue cat story, or, if you think they are inclined, the faerie-centric Midsummer's Night's Dream, you will have hooked a new Sandman fan. If you somehow stumbled across this and haven't read any Sandman (or even many/any comics books) this is the one for you to read!

A nice intermission submitted by kaymbre on July 2, 2023, 9:36am After the first two volumes of this series followed the story of Morpheus and his attempts to regain his power, this volume focuses on short, self-contained stories about the world of dreams and faerie. Make no mistake, this is a graphic novel for adults, not a comic book for kids. The stories are sophisticated and sometimes disturbing, but well worth the effort.
