Exactly What You Expect submitted by Meginator on July 6, 2019, 6:25pm This film is very much one that delivers precisely what you’d expect from it: it’s a goofy action-comedy, nothing more, nothing less. Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds make for a delightfully funny odd couple with excellent comedic chops and chemistry and the action comes fast and heavy. Sure, the film relies heavily on clichés, and sure, it isn’t particularly groundbreaking. I could call most of the upcoming plot points before or as they happened, and on some level the entire plot is completely contrived. Still, I laughed out loud at a few parts and marveled at some excellent action sequences. At the end of the day, it’s a lot of fun, and that’s all that really matters with a film like this. It’s well-produced and it is just as good as it needs to be; I’ll take that for two hours of brainless entertainment.
