Poor submitted by pat1679 on August 17, 2010, 3:48pm very poor. I would not suggest any one to watch this movie.

Great submitted by Daniel Saltzman on August 19, 2010, 7:54pm While the specific faith chosen in this movie might not appeal to everyone, the basic idea of the movie is still solid, and the acting is quite good all around. Not the happiest movie, with a bittersweet ending, but worth watching for sure.

yawnfest submitted by drouhardte on June 22, 2011, 1:13pm You already know everything that's going to happen, you've already seen these actors play these parts, and yes, you already know (the big 'secret!') what is contained in "The Book." Instead watch 'The Road' or 'Wall-E,' depending on whether you want to feel depressed or inspired by post-apocalyptic scenarios.

four star fare... submitted by lekendrick on June 29, 2011, 9:54pm it's the cutting edge modern filming that really takes the show here types of treatments reserved the truly up & coming starlet or veteran performers might even be said of one such as Jessica Biel that left standing a TX chainsaw massacre remake which was honestly horrible to point freeze many careers the same time, but it's deduction comes the silly plot device trick ending as well green screen production style which insures all involved working far beyond this mortal coil! That said you've to love the use deployment of! Perhaps honestly first instance be able finger might even be preference in attempting lay real cloud match live action desert beneath vice versa...

what joy thinks submitted by joiemma on July 1, 2011, 7:37pm sucked

Sort of Interesting submitted by crazypockets on November 10, 2011, 11:58am At first as I started getting into this, I thought, "Ok, so it's basically 'The Postman' with religion instead of mail." And...that's kind of what it was, with a little more violence mixed in. But for what it was, it really wasn't bad. It's hard to go wrong with great actors like Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman in general. Both give good performances, although I'd say that Oldman gives a little more to his role. It's fun to watch an actor like him kind of stretch his legs in a part like this.
I guess I must be a sucker for post-apocalyptic stories in general, because I found this one to be kind of interesting. The idea of what would be valued in such a world gave me at least a minute or two of thought, and I'm sure I'll never look at those wipe-things restaurants give out in the same way again. I do wish they'd given a little more explanation of what exactly happened-it seems no one has a really clear idea of how the world got this way in the first place. Even those old enough to remember and to have been there don't seem to be able to offer any real information which is just lazy on the part of the writers. The film had some good cinematography (very "movie made into graphic novel"...ish, although this wasn't originally a graphic novel) and action sequences with a fairly decent twist thrown in at the end. A little heavy on the religion, though it was mainly trying to show the different sides to Christianity: how it can be used for extreme evil in the wrong hands or extreme good in the right.
Overall, not a great movie, but not bad either.

the book of eli submitted by a2sue on July 25, 2013, 10:00pm denzel is great, as usual

Book of Eil submitted by Diahann on August 1, 2015, 9:40pm I can usually follow most movies but found this one hard to follow. I thought my time was waste.

Denzel is Phenomenal submitted by SadieRose on August 27, 2019, 10:19pm I am never disappointed by Denzel Washington. I was completely surprised in the end. It was a beautiful story line. The thought of books being burned saddened me greatly.

Book of Eli submitted by crp on August 29, 2019, 3:12pm In this post-apocalyptic America there are a lot of lessons to be had. Fascinating story with religious threads throughout. I enjoyed it.

Ali submitted by nesma on July 27, 2020, 10:59pm Like the book

denzel is always great, BUT post-apocalyptic MORONIC flicks like this CONDEMN him to worse than average. submitted by Tassos on December 1, 2021, 7:06pm He should have never accepted the role in the MORONIC movie. Which is not even entertaining, just IDIOTIC.
