the archandroid submitted by qmomo on July 14, 2019, 9:45pm it's hard to know what to say about this album. i'd say it's easily one of the best albums of the decade, and i return to it over and over again. it's a science fiction concept album about monae's alter ego, an android freedom fighter in the future, whose story is a metaphor for the struggles of the oppressed in the present. it's a dizzying tour of musical influences from funk to glam rock to neo soul to film scores to r&b but it all sounds uniquely monae. it has no trouble being at once profound and incredibly danceable. there's just no one like janelle monae.
