In the early '70s, the radically enraged, bomb-planting fringe group call Weathermen had the distinction of being as alienated from the anti-war counterculture as the counterculture movement was from the rest of America. The group planned to blow up an empty building, but on March 6, 1970, an explosive accidentally went off in the New York Greenwich Village area, killing three of its own members and turning the rest of its members into outlaws on the run.
DVD, Region 1, full screen presentation; Dolby Digital.
COMMUNITY REVIEWS
A Powerful Political Documentary submitted by whoisdonald on August 10, 2012, 9:11am Sam Green (who grew up in Michigan and went to UM) has become one of the top American documentary filmmakers of his generation. "The Weather Underground" fully put Sam on the filmmaking map as it was nominated for an Academy Award. This film is skillfully crafted, creating tension and suspense through a primarily archival and talking-head approach. Green's use of non-traditional music/sound design is effective and his interviews with former members of the 'underground' reveal a depth that adds weight to the film and its implications.
