Wish I Could Be Like submitted by Caser on April 7, 2011, 2:38pm While not as boldly innovative as Village Green or Arthur, which The Kinks would release the next two years, Something Else stands strong as one of the most consistently masterful pop records of the late 1960s, British Invasion or otherwise.

David Watts and Two Sisters are the kind of intimate character studies that, like The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby, use details to artfully expose a larger truth about how we perceive ourselves through our peers. But forget all that and simply enjoy the ease of melody that the Davies' draw out of their songs.

Harry Rag points to the snare heavy, darkly rolling drum sound that they will use on Arthur to create a vicious mood that contrasts starkly to the light nostalgic tone of the majority of this predominantly acoustic record.

From an era where most listeners would be playing this LP on a record player, the pacing of the album is outstanding. Stylistically this is most certainly a Kinks record, yet no two consecutive songs can be confused. Most contemporary bands could take notes.

Waterloo Sunset is a masterpiece submitted by doctorfang on July 26, 2015, 9:58pm This album contains my favorite Kinks tune of all time: Waterloo Sunset. Beautiful and haunting. Plus, I wish I could be like David Watts.
