COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Another argument for low-budget film submitted by CasualTim on January 12, 2010, 7:29pm I read that this movie is where Peter Dinklage's career took off; it's quite clear why. Dinklage truly commands the screen, telling ten times as much story as we see in the 88 minutes here. In fact, the three protagonists all shine. Bobby Cannavale, playing Joe, unravels wonderfully from an outer layer of annoying, intrusive, and loud to a roadside gem of a friend and a demonstration of pure loyalty (I'm not sure why he's not listed under additional authors). Patricia Clarkson's Olivia is the least developed, but most important of the three, drawing the band together out of her empathy and the vulnerability that creates (and the desirability the two men, perhaps, associate with that vulnerability?).

Though the story is not a new one (outsider is befriended - like it or not - by local color), the actors, director, and dp pull off a special thing. These are the locals you quickly become jealous of Dinklage's character for getting to know. This is the part of New Jersey you're sorry you've never seen. This is the inevitable, yet engrossing way that these three misfits will form a bond. The laughs are darn good in this film, but more important is the speed and completeness with which I went from considering rolling my eyes to feeling like I'd joined the merry crew, walking the right of way.

Love this movie. submitted by monipate on July 30, 2012, 8:55pm When friends come over who haven't seen it, i insist that they take my copy home. It's wonderful and has a fantastic sense of humor and story telling.
