Julia is an art restorer who is restoring a fifteenth-century painting. Her work on a Flemish painting reveals a hitherto undiscovered Latin phrase which translates as "Who killed the knight?". She goes to the art authorities she knows to find out what it might mean. Oddly, at the same time, a series of murders, including art experts, patrons and restorers has Julia scrambling to find out what is happening. She finds that the mystery of the painting is interwoven with the mystery of the deaths around her.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Three Stars submitted by GJBarnett2 on July 25, 2012, 11:03pm From an early novel by one of Europe's best living authors, IMHO, Arturo Perez-Reverte. Interesting and complex. Little known, but worth a watch.

Unconvincing submitted by tarascon on September 1, 2023, 12:58pm Also 3 stars.
I enjoyed the novels of Perez-Reverte but found this production uninspired. It seems that the director didn’t know how to tell a story. Plus the film has a strange 1970’s vibe and weird musical score—the sound editing in general is wonky.
Still, the movie isn’t entirely awful though I’d bet Kate Beckinsale wouldn’t mind seeing this early work re-covered.
