Minimalist Pop submitted by Meginator on August 29, 2020, 1:47pm This album consists of brilliant minimalist pop, with simple melodies and simple ideas executed to perfection. The stripped-down instrumentation works well with Sting’s vocal style, which adds melodic flair to the lyrics, and the two instrumentals hold the listener’s interest as well as any of the other tracks. The lyrics are somewhat personal, somewhat political, and somewhat silly, perhaps giving the album a lack of focus but also showing the band’s range. At any rate, it all comes together quite well for a classic early 80s feel that just pre-dates the rise of the synthesizer.
