Too Ambitious submitted by Meginator on June 17, 2018, 6:39pm This film has a fairly straightforward premise, following a series of loosely connected characters who navigate various relationships, but it fails to follow through on its lofty ambitions. The metaphors and visual editing style are pretty heavy-handed, and their cumulative effect dulls the film’s ability to emotionally resonate. I appreciate the film’s ambition and applaud the filmmakers’ efforts to cast a range of actors and actresses (though it's sorely lacking in characters of color) and their decision to allow those actors to speak a variety of languages in a film aimed at English-speaking audiences. It’s a shame that the story doesn’t quite click into place; the film is just a bit too ambitious for its own good.
