Worthy Spin on a Classic submitted by Meginator on June 21, 2017, 7:14am I grew up with Disney's animated Beauty and the Beast, so I had high hopes for this live-action remake. I think the filmmakers did a really good job balancing fan service and bringing something new to the table. Belle's character is slightly more modern in her habits and sensibilities, and Emma Watson gives a knockout performance in what must have been a dream come true; the stage isn't too big for her and she excels in the role. I'm not a huge fan of the CGI Beast, but I thought the rest of the supporting cast was excellent as well. And with Alan Menken at the helm, you know the music was fantastic. This isn't quite as good as the original, but it's still a great film for old and new fans alike.

When it tried to recreate scenes, though, it just couldn't quite measure up. The character designs were hit or miss (for example, Lumiere couldn't be more perfect, while Mrs. Potts was a little creepy). The songs ranged wildly--"Gaston" was nowhere near the original, but "Be Our Guest" was pretty good, and the original song was a worthy addition. The accents were all over the place--American, English, French, where does this take place, anyway? Finally, I thought Emma Watson was seriously over-acting, enough that it was distracting to me. Overall, it wasn't bad, per se, but it's not something I'll watch again. Just 'eh'.

Sigh. Well... submitted by arguzman on August 1, 2017, 9:32pm It didn't ruin the original for me. But if I could go back in time and save myself the 2 hours it took to watch this, I would. I pretty much had a permanent cringe on my face. The nostalgic cheesiness of the original cartoon just doesn't work for me when there's real actors involved. Well, "real" often meaning completely CGI characters. Every time they did a song or scene from the 1991 version it just highlighted for me how much less I was enjoying this movie in comparison. And I won't even get in to all the stuff surrounding LeFou...how can he be Disney's "first gay character" if his orientation is only hinted at (and played for laughs when it is!!). Okay, I said I wouldn't go there so I'm just going to end by saying if you like the movie cool, but it's definitely not for everyone (even if you're a fan of the original).

I really liked the new songs the director added. Days in the sun, evermore, and another song. I really liked "Be Our Guest". It was fun and entertaining! I hope everyone will like this movie as much as me! Emma Watson was very good! I really liked how Lefou has some enbarresing moments, but also funny moments too. I hope to watch this movie again!

Everyone gave it their all in their performances and the cast was well selected. I liked the soundtrack. It is worth a watch if you want to compare it to the animated film. If you haven’t seen it. You should. It’s worth checking out.
