A New Disney Renaissance submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 8:55pm This is a beautiful film that fits in the typical mold of the Disney Princess canon while expanding it to give the main character more direct agency over her fate. The animation is absolutely stunning, especially because so much of the story and settings revolve around water. The film has a nice balance of realistic and magical elements, and a heroine who is easy to relate to and root for. With its requisite funny sidekicks and outstanding score and songs, this film recaptures the magic of the studio’s classics while bringing a more modern sensibility to the bildungsroman.
