Back to Basics Tribute submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 8:49am This an old-fashioned, back-to-basics album that fuses blues, bluegrass, and rockabilly into a classic country blend. Many of the tracks are traditional songs, lending the album an automatic sense of timelessness that meshes well with its generally folky sound. Listening to these songs today feels like entering a time capsule, not because it is inherently outdated or unpleasant to listen to but because it inherently captures the evolutionary history of country music just on the edge of another pivotal development. Doc and Merle Watson understand how music works on a fundamental level, and bring that nuanced understanding on each and every track, making it a pleasure to listen throughout.
