Utterly Captivating submitted by Meginator on August 12, 2020, 5:53pm I didn’t know what to expect going into this album, but I think that may be the best way to experience it; even so, I immediately started it over after listening to it for the first time. Something about Forro in the Dark’s vibe is utterly captivating: every track has a ton of natural energy to it and each intertwines traditional Brazilian rhythms and instrumentation with different influences, from rock and jazz to country and other folk traditions. Yet the album hangs together remarkably well, with the group’s unique style imbued throughout. The result is a brilliant blend of new and old, the product of skilled musicians looking ever forward while grounding themselves, and their music, in tradition. This is absolutely fantastic and I am so glad I picked it up.
