A Well-Crafted Political Thriller submitted by timdufresne on July 9, 2018, 5:35pm Twisty-turny political thriller. I would call it House of Cards with out the nihilistic cynicism. Both HoC and this suffer from the belief that political operatives can play some sort of 9-dimensional chess when it comes to politics, but that makes for a neat drama. I guess I'm more partial stories of goofy selfishness and incompetence ala Veep and Thank You for Smoking.

Jessica Chastain Fan submitted by ekjensen on June 14, 2021, 1:36pm Just completed this film viewing (last week the "Zookeeper's Wife" and remember her southern wife outcast role in the "Help"). I am hooked on her films. As the polished, slick, over the top, win-at-all-costs, lobbyist who is driving a team to get a gun control billed passed by the Senate, she moves the political mountains of the Washington DC congressional culture with surprise scene after surprise scene of failures and successes. It holds your attention even to grand finale ultimate surprise moment (no spoiler alert here...just watch the film). PS The film also scares you a bit on the boy-boy corrupt culture that remains in play today.
