skip it submitted by manz on June 30, 2017, 8:16pm I could not get into this film. Sure, acting was great. But I couldn't finish watching it was so boring.

Ok submitted by DL on July 4, 2017, 5:36pm This film was hard to watch, a very depressing time for Jackie Kennedy.

Historic? submitted by Xris on July 19, 2017, 6:37pm What Jackie went through during the assassination and immediately afterwards, with flashbacks to other events. Curious if it's factual, fictional, or both. Nice look at history though.

"It wasn't for Jack, or his legacy; It was for me." submitted by nashjeff on August 9, 2017, 11:49am Jackie (2016) revolves around an interview between Jacqueline Kennedy and a reporter from Life magazine, which results in the famous "Camelot" article. She is played adeptly, emotionally, and with a thick New England accent by Natalie Portman, who earns her oscar nomination. If you're not a fan of Natalie Portman's acting, watch another movie. If you're not into melancholy subject matter, pass as well.

Many characters, Jackie included, are very concerned about JFK's historical and presidential legacy. Almost to the point of where it's not about the loss of Jack himself, but of the loss of the potential of political greatness and power that could have been achieved through his work. Jackie compares him to the other presidents that have been assassinated in history throughout the movie, and much is made about how history will remember him.

Overall: Jackie, the movie, is very much about Jackie Kennedy's grief, the concern about the public perception of her grief, and the aftermath of her husband's assassination.

Things I noticed as a viewer about the timing of events: The movie flashes back to the assassination, first mentioned lightly fifteen minutes in, then, about fifteen minutes from the end, displayed in far more graphic detail. At the halfway point in the movie, we see Jackie in the oval office, sitting in her husband's chair, crying. These moments are deliberately placed, but the impact is less than what it could be.

The music in the film is designed by the avant-garde musician Mica Levy. Levy's strong ear for experimental pop sound is not utilized here, but the score fits the film.

The question I come away with from the movie is: Is this a portrait of Jackie? I'm not sure. It seems more like a portrait of a character in relation to the office of the president. She tells a priest late in the movie: "I never wanted fame, I just became a Kennedy," and this statement is telling. We get full glimpses of her brilliance, a keen awareness of the spectre of history, and then we see Jackie in the isolation of grief (and in isolation, in the center of a lot of the film).

Despite what I've written, I enjoyed and was captivated by the movie at times. I'd say a solid 3.75/5 stars.

Somber submitted by Zekicmom on August 26, 2017, 9:08pm I can appreciate why many people thought highly of this movie, but for me it was too slow and I never really got into it.

intersting submitted by kbahleda on July 23, 2018, 9:33am Not what I thought it would be but a good story to know none the least

Jackie submitted by crp on August 21, 2019, 11:15pm Costume designing is excellent, but I don’t think it portrays the complexity of her character
