Thompson's [b:1066362|Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas], they'd probably be heard playing songs that sound a lot like those on Girls' debut, the neatly titled, Album. The sunny vistas of California are awash with bright, jangly riffs and psychedelic reverb that drive these fun pop songs along quickly. Owens' delivery borders on dopey and whiny when you first hear it, but after a few listens his inflections give the melodies the kind of character that makes them seem open and honest, albeit in a somewhat guarded, we're-all-united-as-strangers-in-SoCal kind of way. The mood here is so happy that even the sad songs have a sense of hope. Play this with loads of sun and smile.
