Presently working in an oil field, talented pianist Robert Dupea spends most of his free time downing beers, playing poker and being noncommittal with his sexy but witless girlfriend Rayette. But when he is summoned to his father's deathbed, Dupea returns home with Rayette, where he meets and falls for a sophisticated woman. Now caught between his conflicting lifestyles, the gifted but troubled Dupea must face issues that will change his life forever.

I'm jaded about baby boomers, so take my word with a grain of salt. submitted by lisa on July 29, 2019, 3:44pm The much-touted diner scene just looks to me like it depicts an a-hole. And the deep meaning of self-discovery and la de da de da.... Ho and hum.

Good early stuff from Nicholson submitted by brooksza on August 15, 2022, 11:13am Not sure another movie has been so improved by the final frame as this one was. That picture told a story of 1000 words. The wheat toast scene was the high point until that moment.
