The group’s strong songwriting and storytelling skills drive the songs, which each have a distinct flavor to them, and it’s worth listening to the album a few times to catch all the nuances and become intimately familiar with each track. The band doesn’t do anything particularly flashy, but they incorporate Mexican music into several songs for a hybrid sound that feels unique to them while honoring different aspects of the members’ histories and heritage. The blend is irresistible and makes this album an amazing hidden gem.
