fun history submitted by unknown on February 4, 2009, 10:05pm This is the director's cut. This film was really worked over before it was released. Nixon was even responsible for an important part of it cut. The commentary is interesting and well worth listening to. William Daniels is a great Adams. According to the commentary, they tried to keep as close to history as possible. Not being a historian I can't speak to that. This is a very enjoyable work. Ron Holgate (who won a Tony for this) is very funny singing "The Lees of Old Virginia". The play opened on Broadway in 1969 and the film in 1972. The material regarding slavery and the political right was radical, for mainstream entertainment, at the time.

Wonderful! submitted by GJBarnett2 on July 10, 2015, 9:57pm Great cast, great story, great music!

listen and watch history submitted by rjsjwilliams on July 22, 2017, 2:50pm This is a fun way to learn about Jefferson and Adams and the rest of the Congress. I'm not a historian, so I don't know how close they came to history, but it was certainly entertaining to watch.. I especially liked William Daniels who played Adams.

Visual Story of the Declaration of Independence submitted by ekjensen on July 8, 2018, 4:46pm As with any movie musical production (and Broadway show), the creators take liberties (hah) with storylines, but this must see American history story (requirement for all middle to high schoolers?) delivers the powerful messages of the initial struggle and creation of our ALREADY GREAT nation. The songs deliver messages in a happy, effective, powerful, silly, honest, and dramatic ways!
