COMMUNITY REVIEWS

The Human Side of Lunar Exploration submitted by Meginator on June 15, 2019, 10:27am This documentary offers an alternate angle on the history of the Apollo missions, focusing on Eugene Cernan, the last (for now, anyway) person to set foot on the Moon. This slightly shifted focus on the early U.S. space program sheds new light on the Space Race and on subsequent changes in extraplanetary exploration, while creating a compelling portrait of Cernan and other astronauts who participated in NASA’s earliest (and possibly most ambitious) missions. I suspect that the film’s recency has a lot to do with this, as the first generations of astronauts grow older and consequently examine their achievements from broader perspectives and significant temporal distance. Beautifully produced, strikingly honest, and refreshingly different, the film is a must-see for anyone interested in lunar exploration, or the history (and foreseeable future) of humanity in space.
