A New Spin on Rap submitted by Meginator on August 8, 2017, 8:21am MC Frontalot is an impressive rapper; his wordplay and flow are up there with the best of them and, more to the point, they focus on decidedly nerdy topics. Frontalot runs the gamut, from computer programming to video games, cult television shows, science, and the experience of being a nerd; he borrows from hip-hop to make music that people can relate to, and it's a lot of fun to listen to. I think he misses the mark on a couple of songs, however, and despite his good intentions the album has the barest hints of misogyny and one egregious example of appropriating a community's language in a way that was meant to be supportive but kind of...isn't. All told, though, "Nerdcore Rising" is packed with humor and a surprisingly good musical sensibility. Frontalot knows what he's doing, and the result is, mostly, a genuinely good rap album.
