Eleven-year-old tomboy Toni is bewitched by the tight-knit dance team she sees practicing in the same Cincinnati gymnasium where she boxes with her brother. Enamored by the power and confidence of the strong community of girls, Toni neglects her boxing, and instead eagerly absorbs the dance routines and drills. But when a mysterious outbreak of fainting spells plagues the team, Toni's desire for acceptance is challenged.

Girl power submitted by ccrose on August 3, 2019, 10:53am This story is for mothers (or fathers) and daughters to watch together. The story of 11 year old girl, already strong and fierce from boxing with her big brother, sees teen girl drill team and a new desire to become like them comes to her.
All the tiny steps girls may take to sculpt who they are, like piercing her ears without consulting her moma, moves her toward a new confidence. She doesn’t get the routines easily (I didn’t get dance steps easily) but she quietly pushes herself.
One of the older girls has seizures and a new fear sets in.to the team. Is it contagious, something poisoning the water?
So many worries. But so much fierce determination. Good cinematography. Filmed in Cincinnati neighborhoods.
Written and directed by Anna Rose Holmer. Hope she makes more films for girls.
