COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A real jewel submitted by ccrose on August 25, 2019, 2:25pm From the liner notes, this was the only recording Coltrane made with a singer. His choice, Johnny Hartman, 1963.
It’s just beautiful. McCoy Tyner on piano, Elvin Jones on drums, Jimmie Garrison on bass. Songs include They Say That Falling in Love is Wonderful, Lush Life, My One and Only You. It’s all satin, Hartman slides so smoothly and Coltrane has the delicate sound, just as satiny. You’ve got to hear this if you’ve heard Coltrane on all instrumentals that let him lead. Don’t try to check your email or pay bills while you listen. Once in a lifetime music. I almost think I couldn't bear to listen to this music in a club with all the intrusive noise that comes with the space. Ideal: a private set in my living room.
