A Great Film submitted by Meginator on July 23, 2017, 9:00pm Hell or High Water is a fantastic film. Despite starting very much in medias res, the plot is set at a slow boil for much of its running time; much of the film's emphasis is on the characterization rather than action, and it's a bet that pays off when things reach a boiling point. The acting is Oscar-worthy and more, the script and direction are taut, and the cinematography captures the dreary beauty and spirit of the fading West. The film is a masterwork of restraint, as well; the violence and gore are never egregious, the tension comes as much from the characters' relationships as it does from the events that occur, and the moral of the story is as ambiguous as the sadly plausible dilemma would be in the real world.

This film is a fantastic piece of art in all of its aspects and I am glad that I watched it.
