A Stirring Civil War Film submitted by rleer24 on September 15, 2008, 2:53pm This is one of my civil war films. First seen in a history class, I remember finding it to be very moving, the kind of film that catches you up into the moment. You become incensed at ill treatment, you cry with Denzel, you cheer on the bravery that leads to the charge in the final scenes.

This movie has a great deal to do with race relations during the Civil War, but it also has a great deal to do with people coming to understand one another, to realize that fighting for a common goal makes them all equal regardless of background. It shows that you do not have to be of one race or another to make a right decision over a wrong one or to fight for what you believe in.

This is one of those powerful movies that will stick with you. My friends and I watch it every now and again, and are always struck with the same strong emotions that this film cannot help but evoke. A definite recommendation.

Absolutely Great submitted by crazypockets on August 11, 2013, 3:36pm In my opinion, this is one of the best movies of all time. I actually would go so far as to say I think it's one that everybody should see. It tells the story of African American soldiers who fought for the Union during the Civil War and all the discrimination and hardships they had to go through to fight for their freedom.

Matthew Broderick does an excellent job of stepping out of his usual boyish roles to prove that he can really hold his own with the great actors like Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman. Everyone in this movie should have won an Oscar. I remember seeing it as a kid and being really traumatized by the tragedy of it, and it will definitely make you cry. You'd have to be made of stone to not cry at this movie. But it is completely worth it and important to see. I agree with rleer-it will definitely stay with you.

great war movie submitted by Jackie77 on August 12, 2015, 11:44pm Excellent movie. Excellent acting. Always down for a "true story". Alot of historical facts in this one.
