Come To Daddy submitted by jibkidder on August 8, 2022, 8:15am What I remember is that both the video for the title cut and the video for "Windowlicker" were what visually defined Aphex Twin when this came out. Sometimes I try to unpack his success as a left field music producer, because a lot of his peers seem, in some ways, more talented than him and because the branding is so extreme. Nevertheless, his music seems to be emotionally resonant in a way that mows down the competition and his flaws can be endearing. In a different way he came in the shape of the future partly by being a troll. "Come to Daddy" itself is not a song I like at all, but it did help bring fans of like NIN "The Fragile" into the fold. Luckily, the established concept of AFX remixes is to bear no resemblance to the source and consequently I do love both of these alternates. "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball" is probably the strongest cut on here - with distinctively AFX textures, his polyvalent nostalgia and his intuitive un-drummerly percussion.
