Her submitted by hcf on August 30, 2014, 10:19pm Her....hmmmm....it was okay.

Her submitted by SBNB on June 30, 2015, 10:09pm Started slow and weird, and it continued in much the same way. The description on the back of the box made the movie sound a lot more interesting that it actually was.

Her submitted by yenkong on July 7, 2017, 10:45am Strange movie. slow..

Very disappointing submitted by Zekicmom on August 1, 2017, 11:34am I'm glad I didn't pay to see this movie, I probably would have fallen asleep in the theater. The concept was thought provoking, but it was so slow and boring.

Her submitted by jibkidder on July 27, 2022, 12:01pm A solid performance from Joachim and an interesting enough setup and follow-through. If I were seeking an art film I'd head elsewhere and if I were seeking something from Spike Jonze I'd head elsewhere and if I were seeking a Joachim movie I'd head elsewhere (to somewhere like Lynn Ramsay's film). So perhaps I'd say this is an ok film that fails to compete with its peers.

uniquely heartbreaking submitted by pmheard on June 1, 2023, 12:07pm this was a beautiful film. from the acting, voicing, cinematography and score.

joaquin phoenix fit the role of theodore so well, his performance was amazing; at times it seemed as though i was feeling what he felt, the hope, desperation, and heartbreak. scarlett johansson was phenomenal in the voicing role of samantha, i didn’t even recognize it was her till i skimmed the cast list; she truly has the talent of dynamic vocality, her adaptation to the style of what would be expected of an OS tied into the personality of a rapidly developing individual and romance were felt and heard through her performance.

the cinematography was beautifully intriguing. it tied in a utopian, technologically advanced society with similar images of what we know today, creating a familiar yet vaguely distant feeling. this, paired with a techno-classical score crafted a breathtaking, inspiring and devastatingly emotive response, at least for myself.

aside from technicalities, the film had an overall introspective message. it told a strong story about love, and altered my view of it in the process. it questioned the idea of what it means to exist, know who we are, and most importantly love who we love. you’re presented with the idea that to love means to grow, and in the words of Alan Watts (great reference), that “you are the world experiencing itself.”
