When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond's big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.

Makes you think about why we do the things we do submitted by kerstinrh on June 26, 2019, 6:03pm Eleanor Oliphant had a traumatic childhood. But she made it through and is just now discovering who she is and the world around her. She has worked at the same job since she finished school and has lived in the same flat for even longer. She goes about her daily routine until one day she goes to a concert and sees a musician she is convinced she is going to marry. She starts doing things outside of her routine and begins to experience new things. She befriends a co-worker and they do some things around town together. She has funny observations on day to day things she encounters and I would find myself laughing out loud as she would recount her experiences. She has difficult memories associated from her upbringing and at times struggles to cope with her life but offers an interesting and fun perspective of the world.

Slow start, then fun submitted by cldaniels on July 22, 2021, 3:21pm It was hard for me to like the main character in the beginning, but then I began to appreciate her uniqueness and quirkiness. Then it was an enjoyable story.
