COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Flawed But Good submitted by KidBlue on August 20, 2020, 4:25pm When this documentary is about Sam Phillips and the old guys who began and ran Sun Studio, it's terrific. When it's about people like Third Eye Blind, the Howling Diablos and Kid Rock (none of whom understand at all the history, traditions or importance of Sun Records), Mark Knopfler, Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, Zucchero, Johnny Hallyday and others, it's terrible. Of the younger musicians, Matchbox 20 comes off well, and the closest to getting it. Plus it gives short shrift to artists Barbara Pittman and the great Charlie Feathers.
Also, Sam Phillips recorded loads of Black artists at Sun. Only Rufus Thomas is interviewed or mentioned in this documentary. Why is that? It's a shame, really.
There's much more to be learned about Sun Records than what is presented here.
If you watch it, listen to what Rufus Thomas has to say!
