COMMUNITY REVIEWS

NOT a comedy! A DRAMA. submitted by mmckenzie on December 3, 2016, 9:29pm Be forewarned. Stopped watching about half way through. I read the reviews. Was not prepared for significant gratitious graphic violence. Did NOT contribute to theme. Some, sure. But it went WAY TOO FAR. My shopping point: dog kicked to death, with joy, then kicker described all dying dog's cries & finally whimpers as it slowly died - for hours. Then, showed mangled dog & her bloody shoes/legs. Can not un-see this. So sorry I did. Don't know what reviewers were thinking! They must watch so many films, they're looking to be stimulated differently. Sure, there are interesting points, but the graphic violence takes it in another direction. It's like seeing a horrible car accident.

Chilling concept wooden execution submitted by mandevil on February 15, 2017, 5:10pm Probably a great book, but not a great movie. Very interesting concept but very wooden unemotional characters. Maybe that was the point? Boring

Nope submitted by manz on July 3, 2017, 8:09pm Not very good. Was slow, boring, and weird. And I usually like weird!

comedy? submitted by yenkong on July 5, 2017, 5:33pm So slow, so boring.. not even a bit funny!

Funny but not normal funny submitted by Duckling on July 29, 2017, 3:21pm Most of the reviews I have noticed for this film are that it isn't funny and they don't understand why it was thought to be a comedy. I am hear to mention that you kind of have to look at how ridiculous this dystopian world it to get the jokes. Not that the people who didn't get the joke aren't they aren't looking right or anything but that it is just a different kind of joke than what we are used to. It is not my favorite movie. I didn't really enjoy it that much. But I did find it funny in its own odd way.

Sad funny submitted by lstorc on August 12, 2018, 11:34pm This is the epitome of dark humor. It's ideal for people who enjoy indie films that are bittersweet and weird.

A great movie. Made me appreciate why this young director is the talk of the town. submitted by Tassos on September 16, 2019, 7:40am Most viewers will not understand this movie, unless they go to the SPECIAL FEATURES of the DVD and listen to the discussions and analysis of it.

This is a movie about Love, NOT a stupid romantic comedy, but a SERIOUS dissection of the concept.

It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and won the Jury Prize. It was shown in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.[9] The film was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the 89th Academy Awards and for Outstanding British Film at the 69th British Academy Film Awards.

Not funny, not even clever, and I hated it submitted by SMHred12 on June 20, 2023, 11:42am I walked out of this movie in the theater when the predictable ending was about to occur. It was needlessly violent, especially to animals, and overall gross. I don't think it said anything new about love. It's ridiculous to think that in order to find love one must be very similar to one's partner was the point I think the movie was trying to make, but I think most people understand that without needing to see someone hit themselves in the face to get bloody noses "just like" their partner.
