Top Sturges Movie submitted by tonyphil on July 8, 2013, 4:12pm Preston Sturges, acclaimed film writer (from the 1930s on) and director (from 1940 on) of many sparkling comedies, hits a high note with The Lady Eve. Barbara Stanwyck plays the daughter of a card-playing con artist team that fleeces rich passengers on a steamship. While taking his money quite successfully, she falls for the naive brewing heir played by Henry Fonda. See the movie for yourself to discover all the fun nuances and unexpected twists in plot. Enjoy four all-time great film character actors in this one: William Demarest, Charles Coburn, Eugene Pallette and Eric Blore. Of all the Sturges movies, this one is especially sparkling and funny, and with universal appeal. Also look into his Hail the Conquering Hero, Miracle of Morgan's Creek, Christmas in July, and Easy Living.
